Since 1926, Michigan
Memorial Park has provided people throughout southeastern Michigan with a place
of beauty and comfort after the death of a loved one. As the state’s largest
family owned cemetery, Michigan Memorial Park offers a variety of options for memorializing
friends and family members, including ground burial, mausoleum entombment and
cremation.
It is still family owned and
is currently in the fourth generation management. Heidi Umin, Vice President of the Park
announced, “It is with great pride that our family celebrates our 85th
Anniversary. I am sure my great grandfather, Judge William Heston and our
grandfather John Heston would be pleased with the changes and our dedication to
maintaining the beautiful setting in our Park.”
President Kelly Dwyer
stated, “Over the past few years we have added a walking club, self sufficient
water pumping lighthouse, (which earned them a Green Leaders designation from
The Southern Wayne County Chamber of Commerce), an angel garden, and most
recently a bronze butterfly garden.”
Along with a detailed plan
for additional landscaping and plantings, the Park continues to expand and add
features that are so unique compared to traditional cemetery grounds. “We even
have a certified Grief Therapy dog on staff named Zoey, she has helped hundreds
of families thru difficult times,” said Dwyer.
MMP recently held an open
house in the beautiful Shrine of Remembrance Courtyard for the SWCRC to
celebrate their eighty five years in business. For information about Michigan
