Supervisor Elke Doom confirmed that the negotiated new
health premiums will reduce Township costs considerably. A public hearing on
the plan was held and the 2011 budget was about $2.7 million.
“We had quite a bit of growth” in subdivisions and
neighborhoods, according to Mrs. Doom. “We were one of the few communities in
the Downriver Area that showed a population increase.” The township is
anticipating slightly more income in revenue-sharing funds due to an increase
in population as recorded in the 2010 Census. The township’s population rose to
about 1,000 people, from about 13,000 in 2000 to around 14,000 in 2010.
Huron Township is in close proximity to New Boston and Flat
Rock and some of its borders reflect a New Boston or Flat Rock address but are
considered part of Huron Township.
