Hustle The Life Changing Effects of Constant Motion Jesse Warren Tevelow 9780692601228 Books

"Hustle" was good enough that after a Kindle-version read-through, I bought the physical book so I could mark it up and refer to it hands-on. I've always hustled. Since I first got a name in the L.A. music scene as a teenager to turning an adult school class into a drama troupe that was "bought out" by a major theatre. But. Now that I'm officially a senior citizen, things have gotten in the way of hustling. Medical issues, family problems, financial hits that happened when I was taking care of subsistence-business for loved ones. Jesse hasn't learned about any of those yet. And I wish he'd address them. I kicked serious a*s until I got into my late forties when I was knocked down hard by a heart attack (and I was still in charge of a dance troupe at the time). My husband (who was my business partner) died, and no one was in a position to take up the slack. My daughter's businesses both took hits in the same year, and she came to me. No matter how long and hard you've been successfully hustling, Jesse, Things Happen. Things you can't control. I'd love to talk with you. I'd like your take on what to do now.

Hustle The Life Changing Effects of Constant Motion Jesse Warren Tevelow 9780692601228 Books Reviews

Jesse has a lot of great tips in this book that make it both inspiring and actionable.

I think that "Hustle" focuses more on the process of producing a book, but its an experience we can all learn from anyways. It takes a lot of effort to write this many words and edit and market it and have it rate as highly as it does. There are so many things that hold us back, but I think this serves as a good reminder that larger feats are still possible even in short amounts of time.

It doesn't offer anything revolutionary, but it was a fun read and definitely hammers down on the fundamentals of hustling -- which is essentially putting 100% into life.
Probably 90% of what I read and write would fall in the business/self-help category so I know the genre well & I'd have to put this book at the top of my list. I thought it was well-written, insightful & inspiring. It made me look at what I was doing, how I was doing it & most importantly, why I was doing it from a wonderfully fresh perspective.

This is probably only the second review I've ever taken the time to write but after reading Hustle, I felt compelled to do so. No matter who you are, where you are in life or what you aspire to, consider this book an amazing gift. It's a very quick read that will inspire you to get going or breathe fresh life into your journey.

This is not one you should pass up!
I paid $0.99 for this book. Had I paid any more than that, I would have been rather annoyed. This book reads less like the manifesto of a self-help guru and more like an essay thrown together by a college student (which it essentially is). The author speaks proudly of how he managed to write the book in a week, but in reality he probably should have taken his time. Between the simple tone, meandering structure, and significant number of typos and awkward word choice, I found myself burned out as the book went on. There is very little original content here; the author is simply summarizing work done by others. I you have very little exposure to these self help types in the past, some concepts may be new to you. Even then, I would recommend you simply read and listen to Tim Ferriss; those resources are free and more comprehensive. All in all, I would have preferred not to have read this at all, much less given a dollar to this author, but hopefully you can learn from my experience. I would pass on this book.
I'd been stuck on a project for a while and couldn't decide how to move forward. This crisp reminder to just keep taking the next action - along with a few examples - was exactly what I needed. Easy read, but packed with useful wisdom.
Basically a diary for the week -- yes just one week -- spent writing the book, Hustle is a record of what can be done if procrastication and other time wasters are set aside and there is total focus on the task at hand -- still without ignoring the need to eat, sleep and exercise. The book provides great ideas about how to stay motivated to make a book happen. Clearly it is not due to tremendous self-discipline as much as it is just starting and then keeping up the momentum. So yes, it is possible that writing 24k words in a week can result in a book that is very readable, very instructive and is just plain a good book. I particularly appreciated the numerous references to other books and websites that support the concepts contained in this book, it is not just a brain dump but includes outside references as well. I also found two concepts -- that of writing through dictation to get a better word flow and then editing based on reading the text aloud -- to be really good ways to get words onto paper and then to correct errors of grammar and word usage. I like the book a lot and I am both impressed by the author's "hustle" and by the useful information that he put on the pages.
I downloaded this book after I heard the author on John Lee Dumas' podcast, "Entrepreneur on Fire". I was so impressed by Jesse's articulate and thoughtful answers (and the calm demeanor that he sustained in spite of JLD's high level of intensity) that I knew I would appreciate his approach to this topic. I was also intrigued by the fact that he wrote and published it as a challenge to himself in 7 days.
As you would expect from any book that takes 3 days to write, it's a fairly quick read and doesn't dive deep into any one topic which was appropriate in this case. I loved the pace of the book and it actually makes me want to commit to a similar challenge. If you're lacking in motivation, this book will inspire you to move forward.
Jesse makes a convincing case that hustle is best sustained through momentum. He gives plenty of examples for each of his points and just as important, he defines what hustle ISN'T.
What surprised me most is how few typos, grammatical and structural errors. The book was well-organized and flowed well. It was clearly written and succinct, which I always appreciate.
